Starts with a review of some of the systems in the north and south of Germany that have closed down recently then on to peat railways at Eulenau, Ainring, Dellstedt, Stapelermoor and Hartmannsdorf. The systems at Steinfeld, Weitinghausen, Neustadt, Goldenstedt, Borgermoor, Lichtenoor and Borstel are filmed in more detail with other locations also seen during the course of the dvd.

This film features five different gauges from 500mm to 900mm with footage from 1995 to 2004. Shots of an internal railway at Trieben then on to the overhead electric line still running at Mixnitz, transporting magasite. Then a stone mine at Schwaz with it's 700mm gauge line which disappeared some years ago. Film is also seen of the railway in Vienna service an old people's home - on to a graphite mine in Kaiserberg and a brickwork railway at Ried im Innkris using 1997 footaage. Finally 1995 footage of the classic peat railway at Burmoos.

At Balatonfenyves a former agricultural railway provides passenger servie with C50 locos. The Children's Railway using the large MK45 locos is seen overlooking Budapest. The Gyonygos Forestry Railway is then shown operating a passenger service on its remaining two branches. Gemenc is also featured and a visit to the brickworks at Torokszentziklos. Forestry work at Mesztegnyo is seen and also at the Csomoder Forestry Railway.
