Mostly shot during the 1960s and 70s when the Czech Station Railways - CSD were operating the most advanced steam locomotives ever built for mainline service anywhere in the world. Alongside modern locos were numerous examples of pre-war locos many of which had been modernised by the fitting of Giesl ejectors. A few sequences date from 1980 and 1988, still in the communist era.,

Once part of a 400 km system, on 13km now remain, but the 1890s baldwin locomotives and rolling stock are still in use, a living m useum of 1890s north American narrow gauge practice. The line links a historic town with a picturesque village through lush countryside and rolling hills.

Travelling from Vancouver to Toronto following the traditional northern CP route via Banff. Filmed from aboard the trains, up in the dome cars from the locomotive cabs and from down on the ground, this is a unique historical record of train travel de-luxe. Shot on first-generation video equipment so that, even with remastering for this dvd the picture quality is not quite up to modern standards.
