Nevada Northern and Heber Valley Railroads. Shows two American short lines in western USA during deep snow. Nevada Northern ran locomotives no. 40, a Baldwin 4-6-0 and no. 93 an Alco 2-8-0 on four different consists whilst the Heber Valley Railroad ran locomotive no. 618 on a mixed train.

Then on to another coal mining railway at Beipiao where there are Sys. The steelworks at Baotou is famous for the spectacular night-time slag tipping. Jalainur's open case pit is seen but this film covers the less well known surface lines at spectacularly low temperatures. Finally the Shibanxi narrow gauge railway uses C2 0-8-0s.
